Re: Help with the mother's name
Father is the same, the mother's name is not mentioned in the document. She is an unmarried woman
Re: Help with the mother's name
Children are Santa Maida and Nicola Maida.
The mother's name isn't listed, because both children were born in a relationship between the father Domenico Maida and an unmarried woman not relative with him.

Re: Help with the mother's name
Nicola's baptism certificate, dated 21 January 1892, states that he was born at 07:00 that morning to Domenico Maida and Concetta Bondi, who were married. His godparents were Filippo Giambartino and Rosalia, his daughter.
Santa's baptism certificate, dated 6 April 1890, also lists the same couple as his parents.
It is possible that the couple only had a religious wedding, not a civil one.

Re: Help with the mother's name
Thank you for the translations and for looking up the baptism certificates.
That's odd... I had found a civil marriage record between Domenico Maida and Concetta Bondi in Bivona (the next town over) on 4 Feb 1887, which was well before both Santa and Nicola's births.
Is it possible he had an affair? Odd the mother would not be listed... In other countries I've researched, they list the mother of the illegitimate child, not the father.

Re: Help with the mother's name
It depends on who registers the birth and what the other parent requests.jamesm113 wrote: 12 Aug 2025, 18:07 ...

On 9 February 1887, Domenico Maida and Concetta Bondi were married in a religious ceremony (# 6) in the parish church in Bivona.
Domenico, who had never been married, was the son of Nicola and Maria Lodato, from the community of Santo Stefano Quisquina.
Concetta, who had also never been married, was the daughter of the late Onofrio and Antonia Bullara, from the parish of the mother church.
