How accurate would you say are descriptions of "complexion" on U.S. immigration records and military registrations?

These were generally accurate. Often listed as Dark, Fair or Olive. Some listed as Medium, Ruddy or Swarthy depending on when they came over. Generally if they were listed as Dark or Fair that was the biggest ones used. My GGrandfather was listed as Dark and my GGrandmother was listed as Olive.
