Hello. It’s recently come to my attention that my grandfather, Pasquale Carpentieri, was closely related to an Alessandro Carpentieri.
Alessandro was born Italy circa 1861. Died, I believe in Italy in 1914.
His wife’s name was Urzola.
They had two sons born in Italy, Giuseppe circa 1891 and Emilio born 1896.
Born sons came to the States and remained here.
I’m looking for Alessandro’s birth, marriage, and death acts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Alessandro Carpentieri

Re: Alessandro Carpentieri
I have more info. Alessandro’s son, Emilio, was born in San Giorgio la Montana, Benevento
December 1896.
Mother’s maiden name looks like Cirelli or Terilli.
I’m looking to find the names of Alessandro’s parents.

Re: Alessandro Carpentieri
Oh Tessa,
You are wonderful!
But this information sort of mucks up my theory. My theory is that there had to have been a familial connection between Alessandro and my grandfather, Pasquale Carpentieri born 1881 in Benevento.
Here’s the whole story.
I recently came upon my great uncle’s marriage certificate. Great Uncle Arthur, whom I had known, was married in 1925 in Manhattan to Isabella LaBanco. I also knew Aunt Izzy.
Uncle Arturo was my grandfather’s baby brother.
They both, Arturo and Isabella, lived at 30 Hamilton Street in Manhattan. Not only is the building gone but the street is gone!
One of the witnesses to their marriage was Emilio Carpentieri.
Who the heck is Emilio Carpentieri? I had never heard anyone in my family mention that name.
Well, we find Emilio also at 30 Hamilton Street circa 1925.
Alessandro and his son, Giuseppe came to America in 1905. Alessandro is 44 and Guiseppe is 14 years old.
Their contact in the states is Raffele Carpentieri who was, most likely, my great uncle Ralph. Alessandro lists Raffele as his nephew on the ship’s manifest.
In 1914, Giuseppe marries in NYC and one of the witnesses is Raffele Carpentieri.
Giuseppe’s address is 480 College Avenue in the Bronx, my grandfather’s home.
I’m thinking that I need to go farther back. It’s apparent that Alessandro and my grandfather were not brothers but, perhaps, first cousins?
My grandfather, Pasquale Carpentieri was born 1881. His parents were Giovanni Carpentieri and Maria Tirelli. I have the birth acts for five of their children.
This is driving me crazy.
Any advice?
Thank you, Tessa.

Re: Alessandro Carpentieri
Can you post the birth act of Pasquale's oldest child?
Where exactly was Pasquale Carpentieri born? I am not finding him in Benevento comune.

Re: Alessandro Carpentieri
My grandfather, Pasquale Carpentieri was born in 1881 to parents Giovanni Carpentieri and Maria Terilli in Benevento,
All of my grandfather’s children were born in NYC, there were nine of them, two dying as infants.
I have all of that data.
But Giovanni and Maria Carpentieri had five children born in Italy; Angelo Raffele (Uncle Ralph), Pasquale, Antonia, Concetta, and Arturo.
Angelo Raffele, Pasquale, and Arturo came to America, lived and died here.
Uncle Ralph and my grandfather died before I was born but I did know Uncle Arthur.
I don’t believe that Antonia or Concetta emigrated.
That being said, my Aunt Anne Carpentieri and my Aunt Concetta Carpentieri both of whom I knew were born in the Bronx and were obviously named after my grandfather’s sisters back in the old country.

Re: Alessandro Carpentieri
I believe this is your Pasquale... But the surname is spelled Carpentiero
Born 27 October 1881 in San Nazzaro Calvi, Benevento.

Father is Giovanni Carpentiero, 36, landowner
Mother is Maria Tirelli, his wife, landowner.

Here is another Pasquale born to the couple in 1879, and who most likely died.

Re: Alessandro Carpentieri
Tessa, as they say in England, you are a diamond. As they say in America, you are a gem.
Meaning of course that you are wonderful!
Yes, yes, the birth acts that you have posted are of my family.
To some of us, and I believe many of us on this forum, the names are important as it is our lineage.
We may not have known personally these ancestors but they are a part of us.
Not just the names but physical attributes. For example, there is something I call Carpentieri eyes.
Most of the Carpentieris I’ve known and photos of those I hadn’t known, all have Hazel brown flashing eyes.
At my brother’s Wake in 2010, a young man walked in,
I immediately asked him, “Which Carpentieri are you?”
“How do you know that I’m Carpentieri?”
“it’s your eyes, “ I replied.
It turned out that he was one of my Great Uncle Arturo Carpentieri’s grandsons.
Then there are the long fingers. Elegant hands with long fingers.
I’m not sure which side of my family inherited that trait. It might have been from the Ligurian side.
The hands are akways the same from generation to generation.
I thank you so much again for all of your help.
