This seems odd but it looks like on these consecutive 1837 records (it’s faint so it’s hard to read)
Salvadore was born… April 19, 1821?
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 43/wWN96x6
and Rosaria was born… April 12 1823?

Is that right? I’ve not seen a birth record from a year not corrente.
thought they were twins but… just reported years later?

Day August 7th, 1837.
Birth record of Salvatore (Salvadore) Gemelli, born on April 19th, 1821 at 9 pm in Messina, to Antonino Gemelli, 46 years old, merchant as job, living in Strada della Darsena, and Giuseppa Saccà, his wife, 39 years old, living with him.
He was baptized on April 21st, 1821 in the Parish Church of San Niccolò dell'Arcivescovado in Messina.

Day August 7th, 1837.
Birth record of Rosaria Gemelli, born on April 12th, 1823 at 4 am in Messina, to Antonino Gemelli, 46 years old, merchant as job, living in Strada della Darsena, and Giuseppa Saccà, his wife, 39 years old, living with him.
She was baptized on April 12th, 1823 in the Parish Church of San Niccolò dell'Arcivescovado in Messina.
The boy and the girl werent't twins, because they were born in different days and years, even if the word “gemelli”, their surname, means “twins” in Italian.
I don't know if the birth was reported years later, it happens when children were born to unmarried parents and were legitimized after their parents' marriage, but I don't know if it was a case like it.
The parents' ages were at the declaration, in 1837, and not when Salvatore and Rosaria were born.

Re: thought they were twins but… just reported years later?
Yes, I know they weren't twins, as I said I thought they were initially because their records were consecutive, which usually happens with twins. But then the dates were backdated.
Anyhow, thanks for confirming the dates I had. No idea why the these birth records were backdated, usually when it's an illegitimate birth (in my experience) it is reported normally but margin notes explain they were legitimized by a later marriage.
And this couple had many other children through the years, before and after these, all recorded normally! Strange. Maybe they were out of town and forgot to report the births.
