Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

It is my intention to become an Italian citizen. Although not born in Italy I descend in a direct unbroken line from Italian male ancestors.
I have followed the information provided in this Forum, and the various difficulties encountered by applicants to Italian citizenship.

Since I noticed some discrepancies I decided to get the full text of the law regarding this matter. Thus, I wrote to a cousin, a lawyer in Italy, and received this information:

"LEGGE 5 FEBBRAIO 1992 n.92. Nuove norme sulla cittadinanza pubblicato nella G.U. n.38 del 15-2-1992.
Note: Entrata in vigore della legge 15/8/1992."
