From Italy to Venezuela

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

From Italy to Venezuela

Post by emiroirausquin »

Anybody knows how/where I can find information about Italian immigrants that traveled to Venezuela? Is there in Italy anything like the Ellis database in which I could locate the Ship Manifests of passenger records?

I will appreciate your help with any info you may have.

Re: From Italy to Venezuela

Peter, Suanj

Thank you so much for you help!

I am looking for my great-grandfather Antonio Sangiovanni. As far as I know he immigrated directly to Venezuela, sometime in the 1880s- 1890s. He was single and I don’t know his date of birth. He married my great-grandmother in Venezuela (she was from Spain) I am searching their marriage certificate to find out his date of birth and the commune he was from.

I am looking for the manifest information because it is well known in my family that they traveled several times to Italy during the period 1890 – 1910 -at leats 3 times. Unfortunately, one of the problems I have encountered in my research is that in Venezuela we don’t have any official government agency or organization that kept the info of those immigrants arriving or leaving the country at the end of the1800 and beginning of the 1900s. So far I found data stating that 285.014 Italians came to Venezuela within 1876 -1976 http://www.comune.torino.it/cultura/int ... /12f3.html

Any ideas?

Gracias!

There may be more San Giovanni in other places that is wehy I asked you for a location but in the interim you might want to call or have someone who speaks spanish call and ask them if they are related to your Antonio San Giovanni. An oddity has developed. there is one Vincenzo De Luca San Giovanni. De Luca was the father but Sangiovanni was the mother and this couple married in Venezuela in 1909..any thoughts on this? Peter

Peter

I don't think the Vincenzo De Luca San Giovanni you are referring to is related to my great-grandfather. We have never heard or known that my great-grandfather had any family living in Venezuela.
My great grandfather, Antonio San Giovanni, came to Venezuela from Italy and married my great-grandmother Carmela (no last name known). I am assuming they got married before 1890 because that is the date in which my grandfather Ramon San Giovanni was born.
I am looking into the marriage certificates issued before 1890. But in the town they lived in the records are not easy to look though -they are very messy.
Antonio traveled with Carmela several times to Italy after Ramon was born. I recently discovered that Antonio had a life or death fight with his Father in law and was given money by the family and asked to leave Venezuela by himself leaving his family behind sometime betwen 1910-1920.

I am looking for the Ship Manifests of passenger records of people leaving Venezuela and the ones for people arriving to Italy in the period 1890 – 1910.
Pretty much I am looking for information about my great-grandfather’s travels.

From the Venezuelan side I know in Venezuela there were four main ports at the time. Puerto Cabello, La Guaira, Port of La Vela de Coro and Port of Cumarebo but unfortunately I have not been able to locate any official government agency or organization that kept the records.

From the Italian side I have no info to find those Ship Manifests of passenger records of people arriving to Italy.
