Since 3 months have passed since I asked the following, I thought I'd repost since the thread took a bit of a detour...while pleasant, I'm still trying to uncover some additional clues about my ancestors...the trail has gone cold, so I need some help.
Re: Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?

As I stated months ago, I'm hoping to pursue the jus sanguinis option for Italian citizenship, but had hit a number of roadblocks.
I'm now circling back with some more info since the earlier exchanges.
I wrote to USCIS for naturalization records, but none were found. I suppose this is good for the sake of jus sanguinis, since the first ancestors were not to have naturalized if they were to pass their citizenship along to their children.
However, my greater hope was to find my great-great-grandfather's place of birth, but USCIS had no record of him.
So I wrote to the local Catholic diocese, and while they could not find any record of marriage for his first wife, my great-great grandmother Mary Bascehetta, they DID have his mother's name, Catherine. This info allowed one of my relatives to find her history, and I'll share what followed:
Antonio was apparently born in Baia, a village in Caserta a few miles from Liberi, which is where the Perretta family is from (my grandmother's father's surname). Most of the early Italian immigrants to New Castle were from this region, so it makes sense.
I've attached a doc that one of my relatives copied with what he believes is the family tree...I think he is correct, but I don't have access to the 'world traveller' section of Ancestry, so I can't go much further. However, here is a summary of the history as I understand it.
1. Antonio's father's first name was Angelo, not Rafaele. So, I'm guessing that he went by his middle name.
2. He married around age 34 and was about 43 when Antonio was born (approx 1861)
3. He was born in Comune DiBaia Latina, which is about 1hr north of 'downtown' Caserta, by car.
4. He was married to Catterinangela in Roccaromana, which is about 12 min west of Baia and 1hr north of Caserta by car.
5. His father was Pasquale Gallucci, and his mother was Maddalena Pascarelle. Catterinangela is from the Di Nocera family.
Not sure if I can link to an ancestry family tree page, but I'll try, because it might make things clearer:

My question now, is where would you advise I go from here?
Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?

After looking at the family tree link you posted
Heres the marriage record of his sister Maria Maddalena Gallucci daughter of Raffaele Gallucci and Caterina Nocera born in Latina so try searching there for his birth record

Re: Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?
adelfio, thank you so much...the little italian i know seems to confirm that this is, indeed, my family!
Re: Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?
Adelfio, (or anyone else) I did some further (manual) searching through the Baia e Latina records, and found what I believe is Maria Maddalena Gallucci's birth record.
http://interactive.ancestry.com/1893/31 ... 1143-00372
I really can't make heads or tails of the document, but I see the names Raffaele Gallucci, Pasquale, Caterina Nocera, etc. These are familiar names that we've seen in other documents, but since I can't read the birth document, I can't tell the relationships or if there is other important info. I don't recognize other names...perhaps officials/witnesses?
What really caught my eye is the name Antonio...I'm not sure if there is any indication that he is her brother, which would help us confirm that we have the right family!
Also, when I searched earlier for Antonio's marriage record (we think it was in 1892), nothing came up in Baia e Latina, which it seems he might've lived/been born. So I'm wondering if it was common for marriages to be held in the bride's hometown instead?

Re: Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?
Dated 3 May 1868
Before the official appeared Raffaele Gallucci [son of deceased Pasquale] age 52, peasant farmer residing in Latina to present a female child who he declared was born on 2 May at 11 PM to his wife Caterina Nocera [daughter of deceased Giambattista], age 46, residing with her husband, and at the house they inhabit in this town at contrada Roberti(?), and that this child was given the name Maria Maddalena.
Present as witnesses to the recording of this birth were Antonio Tancredi [son of deceased Raffaele] age 50,; and Celestino Landolfi [son of deceased Lorenzo] age 45.
The official then entered the birth into the register. Only he signed as the others were illiterate.

Re: Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?
Thanks so much Tessa! Even though it wasn't 'our' Antonio, you've added a new piece to the puzzle by finding Giambattista, my great-great-great-great grandfather's name, which we didn't know until now!
Now, If we could only locate my great grandfather, Antonio's birth or marriage record, and his wife's birth/marriage record, we'd be in business!

Thanks so much Marty...I will track these down asap!
Re: Anthony Gallucci...no passenger list, no naturalization?
Well, everyone, I found my great-great grandfather's birth registration! After a long journey on this forum and at my public library, I present to you the birth of Antonio Gallucci. People like Marty and Tessa have been a great help along the way, and deserve a lot of credit for their kind efforts.
I still have to find his marriage info, but this is undoubtedly him.
The problem I now have is that my Italian is very, very limited, so when you add handwriting into the mix, I'm afraid I'm missing a lot of the picture.
Would someone be so kind as to fill me in about what the document says?
My current guess is that it says Antonio was presented on April 14, 1860, in Latina. His father was Raffaele Gallucci, his mother was Catterina di Nocera. I can't make out their occupations or their parent's name. It looks like Raffaele was about 42, and Catterina was 39, when Antonio was born?
Any clarification would be most appreciated.
Thanks again for any and all who contributed to this search...it means a great deal.
