Having trouble with handwriting

Post by Brad19M »

I received my citizenship a few years ago and am in the process of tracing my mom’s side further back. I have found some certificates but have come to a crossroads due to the fact I can’t make out the handwriting lol.

I have attached Salvatore’s birth and marriage certificates. So, his father Pietro I can not make out his age at the time of birth, or his mother’s last name (marriage cert also for mother’s last name).

Maria Antonia’s (Salvatore wife) birth certificate. I can not make out the age of Biase d’Alonzo or the last name of her mother Angela Maria.

Salvatore mother Domenica Lazazzara birth certificate and register. Her father Felice age 28 at time of birth I can make out but her mother’s name I can not at all.

Felice’s marriage Certificate and register for the names of his parents and his wife’s parents. His father I can legibly read as Gaetano but that is all.

Any help would be appreciated so I can further my searches.

In the future, it would be best if you post these records individually rather than as a single post.

1. The first record is for a male, not female-Domenico Lazazzera (how the surname is spelled in the record). His mother was Modestina Cimaglia, age 24

2. Felice's marriage-Sept 10, 1845
His parents: Gaetano; his mother Anastasia Cimaglia

Bride: Modestina Cimaglia
Her parents: Maurizio; her mother Barbara Mastrodonato

3. In Mariantonia's birth certificate:

d"Alonzo's age 42; his wife, Angela Maria Moccia

4. In Salvatore's birth record, his father Pietro was age 40, and his mother was Domenica Lazazzara ( I think this surname should end in era and not ara).

Ok I’m sorry on that, but will do so in the future.

I see where you say Domenico, could this be bad handwriting? Above I believe it says femmina.

Yes, you are correct. I missed that word in the document. I was looking at the word for newborn further down, which is written in the masculine form, ending in an o, plus the baptism section has the name clearly written as Domenico. Sorry about my error.

Thank you for the help! In your opinion do you think this is just bad handwriting then? It looks like on the register it says Domenica, almost like the tail of the a becomes faint until it reaches the end of the tail.

I agree that, in the index, the first name is Domenica. That is clear to me. However, there are often mistakes in the indices and, it's unfortunate, that there isn't a marriage annotation somewhere on this birth/baptism record. The record itself, however, does indicate the infant's sex as female, so I would say that the record is for a Domenica and not for a Domenico.

So I only had limited time today to search at the family history library but I found il certificato di nascita di Biase. Can you help with his parents names?

My best guesses are, but again the handwriting I am having trouble with.
Angiolo d’Alonzo 21 at time of Biase’s birth?
Irene d’Onofrio 22 at time of Biase’s birth?

Thanks
Brad

I am reading the father's age as 29, and the mother's age as 23. You have the parents' names correct. :-)

You are very welcome!
Is there anything else in the record you need verification with?

It's been awhile since i have been able to get back to the familysearch library, but was able to today for a couple hours. Found one more, can someone help me with his mom's name and age at time of birth.
The handwriting for the mom i am having trouble making out. Unfortunately, i wasn't able to download these due to restrictions, so i had to screen shot them. I attached two zoomed in screen shots as well as the main one.

Angola d'Alonzo
born: May 29,1809

Father: Biase di Pietro d'Alonzo, age 28 at time of Angiolo's birth
Mother and age of mother: ?

Thanks
