Re: Help please, confused newbie

Nonno arrived in 1889 and was in his seventies when he naturalized. The war and rumors of internment camps and deportations drove his decision.

Re: Help please, confused newbie

Nonno's petition was almost denied. It was during World War II and Italian Americans were classified as Enemy Aliens. The FBI filed an Objection to his petition, which held it up in court for a couple of years. Finally the court ruled that since Nonno had filed his declaration of intent before the ...

Re: Why Duel Nationality?

Em has listed some good reasons.

One note- non-Italians can purchase property in Italy just as Italians can. There is no difference.

Re: "no records" letter not sufficient?

Another option is to contact the dept. of state and request a certified copy of ancestor's US passport record. This will cost you. But there is a wealth of info contained within the record, including photos of your ancestor. If your ancestor never travelled outside US then there may not be a ...

Re: Status based on 1930 Census

If grandfather naturalized and grandmother naturalized with him, her name will be included on his naturalization certificate. I would send a G-639 to USCIS requesting a search for the naturalization certificate for your grandfather.

Re: Status based on 1930 Census

I wasn't a history major, and it appears I was off by one year (I was probably thinking of the Russian Revolution).
I wasn't a history major either. But I believe Americans (especially educators) should make an effort to know the sacrifices their forefathers made to keep the world free.

Re: Status based on 1930 Census

by 1917, WWI was pretty much over.
The US did not enter the war until April 1917. After that date, 2 million US soldiers fought in Europe, the US lost 116,000 men, and had 205,000 wounded. The war ended in November 1918.

It was hardly almost over in 1917.

Re: Support to obtain Italian Citizen

Asphix, rather than an extended stay visa, you can enter Italy from Brazil with no visa for 90 days.

Fill out a Declaration of Presence at the frontiera or questura.

Go to the comune anagrafe with your Declaration and request residenza.

Take citizenship documents to the comune stato civile and ...

Re: Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt over Jure Sanguinis!

Actually there have been people who turned in their documents at the consulate and were later informed, on closer examination, that the consulate could not recognize their jus sanguinis citizenship.

Until the consulate informs you by letter that your application has been approved and sent to the ...

Only the consulate can decide the issue. We may hope the consulate agrees with you and Gabino. But so far, they disagree, and their decision is the one that counts.

Re: Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt over Jure Sanguinis!

We understand your position Gabino. But the consulate has already reviewed his documents, and they disagree. It is their call, not yours or mine. Hopefully they will change their minds and come around to your point of view. If not, he will need to try a different route to citizenship.

It's the consulate's call. What they say goes.

That said I do hope they change their minds and accept your application. :D

Re: Jus Sanguinis / Sicilian great-grandfather

The citizen/subject thing is no problem. Italy was a kingdom at the time so its people were subjects of the king. Doesn't affect your jus sanguinis application at all.

think I have the basic requirements, as I understand them, but do they sound consistent with Jus Sanguinis so far?

You sound ...
