Re: ??? Prata

If I send for my g-g-g-grandfather's birth record from 1770-1780 in Prata D'Ansidonia, would the best place to start the search be in the town office or the Archives [Naples or elsewhere?] Thanks.

Re: ??? Prata

Tessa, thank you for the list of different Prata's. I can't believe there are so many!!! I have my work cut out for me. I did start going through some of the Familysearch records for Prata D'Ansidonia but unfortunately, many years are missing. Francesco's death record [1858] is a little hard to read ...

??? Prata

I am asking for opinions or ideas. I found a death record on my g-g-g-grandfather in Civitaretenga. His name was Ferdinando Pollastri [Pollastro] and he died in 1858. It stated that he was born in Prata, where his parents lived. It justed stated the village of Prata...nothing else. Can I ASSUME that ...

Re: Best DNA Testing Company?

There is a lot of information to learn about genetics but there are many people on the forums who could guide you and give answers. My husband has only done up to 37 markers so far but my aim is to do the 111 marker test also [you can upgrade from 37 or 67 markers for a cheaper price since some of ...

Re: Best DNA Testing Company?

Hi...my husband has used the FAMILYTREE DNA site. They are now offering 37 marker tests for the paternal side [Y-DNA]which costs $169.00, 67 markers =268.00 and a new 111 marker test for 359.00 No matter which company you use, it gets expensive because it is so addicting [just like genealogy]. As ...

Ann, thank you for those ideas. I have some of the dates necessary so hopefully someone will take the time to look in the parish. I will try your suggestions...keeping my fingers crossed.

Help with letter to parish priest

I am sending a follow-up letter to a parish which I haven't heard from. Could someone look at my letter to see if I wrote properly in Italian? Thank you.

Dear Reverend,
I had sent a letter to your parish on January 4, 2011 asking for information of my great grandparents and family. I am enclosing ...

Re: Who Do You Think You Are? Season 2

Cowryshells, thank you for letting us know about this genealogy program. I know I will be watching the shows tomorrow during the wintry weather we will be having here. Nothing better than watching genealogy programs while the snow, sleet and rain is coming down. :D

Re: Who Do You Think You Are? Season 2

I have been watching all of the series so far. I liked all of the shows but like you, I thought the part about the Elvis Presley ancestors on the same boat connection was off the mark. I just wish that they would pick an "un-celebrity" and follow their family tree for a change. I would be more ...

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'll just sit it out and wait to see what happens. You never know, maybe I will be surprised one day when the papers arrive in my mailbox.

Re: Waiting for reply from church

Thank you for the pep talk! I had no idea that it could take so long for a letter to get there. I shouldn't assume that the mail moves as quickly there as it does in the U.S. I'm not ready to give up yet. I just hope the San Salvatore Church in Civitaretenga is up and running. Thank you again.

Waiting for reply from church

I sent a letter, written in Italian, enclosed a small donation and IRC for postage for records on my great-grandparents to a church in Civitaretenga. It was sent out about Jan. 5th, 2011 and still no reply back from them. Do I knudge them with a follow-up letter or am I being impatient since it's ...
