If anyone can help me with this...I would truly appreciate it. I received a letter from Naples in response to my request for more information on my family.

Re: How Names were "Inventato" (Invented)?
Thanks Gina! I kind of think that might be the case with mine too. Oh well, what can you do? When you come to the end of the road...that's it!
I will probably just write one final letter to the orphanage and/or Stato Civile requesting any add'l info about his abandonment and if they don't have any ...

Re: How Names were "Inventato" (Invented)?
Thanks John. Very interesting....any ideas on the name "Nostrame"? I'm thinking, in following your explanation, that maybe it was a variation of another name. What do you think?
Thanks again,
Jen

How Names were "Inventato" (Invented)?
Hello all,
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season!
I have a general question: Does anyone know how names were generally "invented" for orphans in Italy?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
Jennifer

Re: Not sure where to go next
Josh,
How funny - I didn't even see it - the mailing address for the comune di Poggio Imperiale is right in the top left corner...:)
Also, here is the website (I believe official) for Sulmona:
http://www.comune.sulmona.aq.it/web/index.html
Click on "contatti" & you'll see the email address ...

Re: Not sure where to go next
Here is the official website for the comune Poggio Imperiale (you can normally tell which website is official because 1) it usually has the official crest of that comune and 2) it will have gov't info, including contact info)

Re: looking for my ancestors from italy
Hey Justin,
I think I can help you here.
I just looked at Caroline's passenger manifest. It says her husband's father lived in Napoli & even gives an address (ironically this is exactly how I found my ancestors in Naples).
I think your people are from the city, but I can't read the exact ...

Re: looking for my ancestors from italy
Hi Justin,
I have also researched my ancestors, who were from Naples. But it's important that you know whether they are from Naples the province or Naples the city. My ancestors were from the center of Naples, so I was able to write the Stato Civile office there for the records - I had no success ...

Re: How do I find my G x 3 grandfathers roots in Italy?
Well, maybe you are right about Como...do you know this website?
http://www.gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/genera.html
Where the dark circles are - is where the majority of Veronelli's are from....and that looks like the Como area...
So maybe you can use Suanj's info and seach San Fedele & San Donnino ...

Re: How do I find my G x 3 grandfathers roots in Italy?
Suanj is the expert here so please defer to her judgment for everything & anything but....
Since you said that you are just guessing about Como (and you really need to know the exact town in Italy to get records), are there any other sources or records in England that you can think of that may have ...
