Mine was a letter from the town where he was born that stated his parents name, his birth date and at birth he was an Italian Citizen.

Got my letter from Miami
I received my letter from Miami today. Five months from application to letter. Miami seems to be running very quick. I'll now get my application for my passport started.

I am not an expert on this but I do know your husband can not apply till after you receive your letter and your papers are registered at the comune in Italy. Spouces have a whole different process to go through to get citizenship. My appointment was in Feb 2009 and my wifes appointment is May 2010 ...

You can order a copy of the naturalization papers from the archive. Send them an e-mail with all the info you have. They will e-mail you with what they find and you can recieve all the documents used in the process. This is if he naturalized in New York. But you have nothing to loose by sending them ...

I also needed the document for Miami. It is not really a certificate but more of a letter on Official letterhead stating that my grandfather was born in the comune on (giving his date of birth ) to (naming his parents )and was a Italian Citizen. They also had a footnote stating he became a US ...

I would like to take credit but I hired someone to get it for me. After many attempts calling the commune not being able to talk to them in Italian. It was the best money I spent. They wanted release letters and proof of identity ( had to send a copy of my passport) because they had privacy policies ...
