Re: Looking for Tricaricos from San Mauro Forte

Dear Reachingback;
I wish I had seen your posts earlier! We might have a family connection through Nicola Tricarico, born 2/16/1867 in San Mauro Forte. You mentioned he had siblings Rosaria, Maria (Anna?), Maria Concetta & Josephine. I have a Rosaria Tricarico in my family tree, born December 28th ...

Viggiano/Viggiani Surname from San Mauro Forte & Stigliano

Is anyone else researching the Viggiano/Viggiani families from San Mauro Forte & Stigliano? I have discovered (in a family tree that was passed down to me from a relative in Italy) that my great-great grandmother's name was Rosaria Viggiani--possibly born circa 1830. I would love to know more about ...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

DebiHarbuck; Love your Re-Pete story! Guess I can see why nobody else used the name Peter again...where else can you go with that name, after "Re-Pete"? :)

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

nickintexas:

Yes I know what you mean, about the confusion. We have so many Vitos in the family that we call them by their first & middle names, which so far has worked out -- that is, unless all the middle names start repeating too! For now, I'm assuming that my two Giuseppe Lacovara ancestors ...

Briganti Surname from Grassano, Matera, Basilicata, Italy

Is anyone else researching the Briganti families from Grassano, Matera province, Basilicata region, Italy?

Many of my Briganti relatives immigrated to NYC in the early 1900's. I would like to compare information with anyone who has that surname in their family tree.

Thank you.

Scalese family from Matera, Basilicata

I am descended from the Scalese family of Matera province, Basilicata. My 6x great grandmother was Roberta Scalese (father's surname Ruggero). She married Filippo Craco.

According to my records, Roberta was from Stigliano, and also had family in San Mauro Forte, Grassano, and probably Craco.

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

Micheles;

Thank you; yes I was wondering whether some of the films I viewed could be mislabeled or not in order. A few records seemed incomplete, or were missing altogether. In fact, I was told that many of the records/films from SMF were "water-damaged". That's why I may just have to send to Italy ...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

Debi:

Are the birth records for your town on separate reels from the marriage records? A genealogist at the Utah Family History libaray told me to look at the following reels:

Pubblicazioni 1864-1900 - Processetti 1811 1831-1835-INT Film ...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

Thank you DebiHarbuck;

Yes, I do have a list of specific names with approximate dates. My cousin wrote to the mayor of San Mauro Forte (in English!) and surprisingly, she received all the records she requested.

Have you ever looked at the microfilm reels for San Mauro Forte, and if so, were you ...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

Hello Marty;

Thank you for your reply. I went to the main branch of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. It's a wonderful place! I found valuable information in the San Mauro Forte civil marriage records.

Unfortunately I was unable to find complete information on particular ...
