Do Italian Towns Have Historical Societies?
I was wondering if Italian towns had anything like the historical and/or genealogical societies that many communities in the US have? Along this line, I suspect that there is often a person or family in a town or village that might be considered the local history expert. Does anyone know if there is ...

Strategy for Reggio Calabria Deaths
Hello--
I haven't visited this helpful site for a while. I like the new look!
Last night, I had a major breakthrough, thanks to Antenati's Reggio di Calabria records. For years, I had been searching for information about the death date and location of my husband's great-grandfather, Antonio Gatti ...

"Il Magnifico" Designation?
This topic has been addressed before, but I'm not sure I've gotten a clear concept of the honorific title "Il Magnifico." I first heard it when we visited Molise. A friend there told us that it was often used to refer to high-ranking university officials. As college professors, we thought that this ...

Re: Le Marche Records: Antenati
Thank you, Tessa78. When I click the region on the map, the Macerata--which leads to the blank page with the "Gallery" heading comes up. I've seen the Napoleonic listings, but I'm confused about the two different images that come up with Macerata.

Le Marche Records: Antenati
Antenati Italiani has proven to be a treasure trove for me. It's provided me with many helpful records from Lazio/Viterbo.
However, I have lots of work to do in Le Marche. When I click on the Macerata icon, all that comes up is a blank page with "Gallery" at the top. Am I doing something wrong? Or ...

Need Help with a Term--Is it a Put Down?
Hello--
Thanks to Antenati Italiani, I have been able to gather a lot of information about my husband's family from both Lazio and Calabria.
As I was looking up birth information for a great aunt born in Ischia di Castro in 1886, I ran across a term I thought might be derogatory: scopino. It was ...

Re: Cessapalombo, Macerata--Napoleonic Location?
Yes, I have. I've had great luck finding some relatives who moved to San Ginesio. I found a great-great grandfather by going through the Cessapalombo records offered on Family Search. Of course, you have to comb through a lot of images to find the indices, but the effort is worthwhile.
But, I'm ...

Cessapalombo, Macerata--Napoleonic Location?
Some members of my husband's family came from Cessapalombo, Macerata, Le Marche. When doing research via Antenati.Italiani, I had some trouble figuring out how to access records from this community. The website offers an extensive set of Napoleonic-era locations. I didn't see Cessapalombo listed. I ...

Re: Semmolella--Am I reading this correctly?
Thank you, Erudita! There were three death acts bearing this name, all for children of Veriano Maffei and Marianna Semolella (one lists her as "Maddilena.") These relatives died in old age. Each rendering of the name is different.
I really appreciate your helpful information! Thanks, too, to Marty ...

Re: Semmolella--Am I reading this correctly?
Thanks, Marty. I'll give this a try. The death record is #84 (1880), filed in Toscanella, Viterbo, Lazio. It is for Nazzarena Maffei.
I hope this works. Thank you all for your help.

I obtained them through the very helpful Antenati Italiani website. I'll try to upload the images, if possible.
Thanks!

Semmolella--Am I reading this correctly?
I have been having a lot of success locating civil records for my husband's family rooted in Lazio and Le Marche. Various websites have provided us with access to some helpful records.

Gatti-Gambaro Mystery--Death Dates?
I have had great success locating information about my husband's paternal great-grandparents, Antonio Gatti, b. 1832 in Castiglione, and his second wife, Francescantonia Gambaro, b. 1847. They lived for most of their lives near Castiglione. However, in the 1890s, they were listed in their daughter ...

Gatti Ancestors--Reggio Calabria
I've successfully traced my husband's family (Gatti) back to the late 1700s, thanks to on-line records for Falerna, Catanzaro, Calabria. However, I have been unable to determine the fate of his great-grandparents, Antonio Gatti and Francescantonio Gambaro. The last record I was able to locate for ...
