Re: Just Wondering

it is sad that this fine website has been infiltrated by people who falsely think that they are comedians and obviously have little interest in promoting Genealogy work.

However, they often did not speak the language, had no cell phones (and usually most...

Who is this person?

On page 4 of my grandmother's (Gandolfa Cascio) Passport is the name Maria Agnello. Please translate as to who this person is/why she is listed. I have Agnello family on my family tree, but not this person.

Re: Translate Passport Details

Thank you. His actual birth record from Racalmuto has him born on 26 May 1896 (not 1895), which would make him 17 years old in 1913 (otherwise, 1895 would make him 18 years old). See link:

Re: Italian Parish Records

The Racalmuto civil records (indexes for quickly finding relatives) are from me, and soon they will be adding the few Racalmuto church records that I have (all related to the surname Puma and those that m...

Babies and Personal Hygiene before Soap

When there were no bathrooms, no running water, no throw away diapers, no washing machines, how in the world did families cope with the uncontrolled urine and poop from babies?

Re: Looking for researcher in Ventimiglia di Sicilia

I used Raimondo Lentini for Racalmuto, Sicily and he did a good job. I know he lives in Sicily so he might cover that town. His email address is lentini5259@gmail.com. He speaks little English. I used Google Translate to communicate with him by email, though he does translate records he finds to Eng...

http://www.grecicousins.com/1.html - If you are lucky enough to have relatives that came from Greci, Italy, this is by far, the best Italian site I’ve seen. Volunteers have been working for over 20 years on it. It is incredibly detailed, easy to utilize, and very well linked from generation to gener...

Re: Agrigento Military records?

Military Records - You'll have to narrow your research to a specific region http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Italy, then find out if the local "Archivio di Stato" had started a digital project for local soldiers. http://www.difesa.it/Il_Ministro/CadutiInGuerra/Pagine/AlbodOro.aspx – Enter a n...
