Re: Which one-DNA Test
Gentilejoy, I know this post is several months old but in case my reply can offer additional information, I wanted to add to the previous comments. What peonygirl said about where to test depends on what you are looking for is key. What are your goals? If the main goal is to receive matches with ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
It has been may years since I first posted on this site and I wanted to post an update. Because of autosomal DNA testing, I have finally learned the identity of my birth mother, and through her family members who I have met, I learned who she was dating at the time of my conception and birth. I also ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Thanks. I know that most countries contain many faiths, but I did assume that more Italians are Catholic, than Protestant. One thing I am sure of is that I need to maintain an open mind to any and all possibilities. It would be nice to know though as it is a part of my history.

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Micheles,
That is interesting, I never knew that (baptism and a Catholic name). To this day, I have no idea if I was ever baptized. I was given to my adoptive parents when I was 5 days old, but I was probably born in a hospital named "Lourdes", but non-Catholics also used it. My adoptive parents ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Karen,
I will look for your other reply. However, my signature shows my birth name, first and last, Cecelia Jones. I know that my birth father is Italian, but I do not have a first or last name. You did give me another idea though! I guess it is possible that the surname of my father was hidden in ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
I try to respect my mother's privacy to some degree so I have put "personals" in the local Binghamton, NY paper on Mothers Day but I do not put her name, just my birth-first name, and my DOB as she would know that. I don't want to risk ruining the potential for a meeting in the future. However, so ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Micheles,
NY State is one of the worst for opening adoption records, but they do have the state registry, so if your friend is still searching for any birth family, she should register as they will match you if a parent or sibling has also registered. They will also give her "non-identifying ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Micheles,
Thank you for the encouraging words. I have not given up. I know my birth mother was 19 when I was born, and the 1940 federal census is coming out this spring. I have a name which may or may not be an alias (unfortunately it is Jones), but the census should help me figure that out. Also ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
John,
Thank you for your reply. We also communicated earlier when I registered the Massolino search on the ITALIADOPTION site. Unfortunately, Michael (adopted name) does not use the computer so either I or his daughter would have to help him, and neither of us live near Michael. However, we will ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
It has been over a year since I last posted. Thought I would update just in case. I now have a predicted 5th cousin DNA match with a person with the Italian surname COSTIGLIOLA, after having my DNA tested with Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) "Family Finder". I am curious what region of Italy this surname is ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Judy,
Not sure if you are coming back to check this thread or not. I too am an adoptee. I am 100% Italian but was raised in a 100% Irish family. I have always loved Italian culture and feel it is my one and only true culture, I'm Italian, period! Only adopted people know what it's like to be ...

Re: Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Yes, I understood you, Tina. But, in your case, it is on some record, someplace. And at least the story was passed down. I would be happy with a passed down story. But, in most cases, you hit a brick wall, when you know nothing but parents unknown.

Adoptee Searching Just Discovered Italian Ancestry
Since it is almost my birthday, I felt compelled to post here. I am not sure how this site can help me as I am an adoptee, but I wanted to try. I was born October 1, 1956 in Binghamton, NY. My birth name was CECELIA. I do know my birth father's ethnic background is Italian and my DNA test results ...
