Raffaella,
Yes, of course, his birth could have been in one of any number of small communities that surround Cosenza. Hard to know where to go next seeking a copy of the birth certificate.
Again, thank you for your continued interest.
Mike

Re: Pierri in america
I made a request to Comune di Cosenza for a copy of the birth certificate and have today received their reply: "PIERRI Giuseppe was not born in Cosenza between 1860 and 1869."
The Comune graciously returned my pre-payment personal check with their letter.
So any other towns possible?

Re: Yanuzziello
It looks like, thanks to your research, that Castelnuova di Conza is most likely my granfather's birthplace. I will request a copy of his birth certificate from the Comune there.

Re: Yanuzziello
I received the marriage certificate today (quite promptly, I must say) and was delighted to see my grandfather's actual signature --- Antonio Iannuzzelli --- upon it. As to where he was from it only states Italy. Further, he lived in Newark, NJ but my grandmother lived in NYC. Her address is given ...

Re: Yanuzziello
You folks are amazing! I can confirm what you have posted as follows: Their child Angelina died in the influenza epidemic of 1918. My mother's name was Frances so she is the "Fanny" listed. The other children are my aunts and uncles (all deceased). And Antonio' s occupation shows as "barber". I am ...

Re: Yanuzziello
Many thanks for the indication that there was a spelling change to the name. They first lived in Trenton, NJ and then moved to Newark. He was a barber and had his own shop.

Yanuzziello
My maternal grandfather's name was Antonio Yannuzziello. He was born Feb. 27, 1874. Would like to confirm his birthplace. I think it was Aversa. Do not know year he emigrated to USA. However, he married Angela Marie Acolia in New York City on July 14, 1897.

Re: Pierri in america
The information you have sent convinces me that the right name and dates are:
Guiseppe Pierri born about 1864, immigrated 1885 to New York.
I think he came from Abruzzi e Molise or Basilicata.
I express my sincere appreciation for your efforts in getting me the information you have posted.

Re: Pierri in america
Wonderful! You are being more than helpful. I really appreciate what you have posted. My father's family did not tell me much about their origins but I seem to remember that they came from Abruzzi. Is the Pierri name know in your region? We have visited Italy several times but did not get to Abruzzi ...

Re: Pierri in america
The info from the 1930 census is by and large pertinent. It is strange to see it repeated listing both under "pierry" and also "perry". My main hope, however, is to learn positively what the name spelling was before it was changed. An earlier census might help. How do I access the census records ...

Re: Pierri in america
My grandfather's first name was Joseph (Americanized) who must have arrived prior to 1900. He settled in Jersey City and eventually changed the surname to Pierry. Would appreciate any leads that I can follow.
