Birth records for Schignano Italy
There are no records available past the middle 1800's for Schignano Italy. I have been told that is because of the Austrian-Hungarian invasion. Does that mean that the records are in Hungary, Austria or were destroyed? I am back as far as I can go with what is available and need to find out how to ...

Italian Detto or clan name
I have been researching my family in Italy and my name is common in Schignano. The Peduzzi's have Detto's identifying different families. When do these families get that detto and when does it change or is that the only detto that family will have. Does that mean that a particular detto identifies ...

Re: How will I know that you got my message?
My original question was locating the birth certificate for Domenico Peduzzi (detto, Coaza) born early in 1800 in Schignano, Italy. He married Teresa Gaggetta and had a son Miro. I can't find Miro's birth certificate either. Any thoughts? Teresa

How will I know that you got my message?
I posted a message regarding my paternal great grandparent family. The question was about finding certificates and now I want to know if my post went through. My question was about finding birth certificates for Domenico Peduzzi born in the early 1800 in Schignano, Italy and his son Miro. Can you ...

Re: FROM ITALY TO THE COAL FIELDS
Two of my grandfathers brothers died in the mines in Indiana county, Pa. I have tried to find out what happened to them and have had no luck. They may have misspelled their names since they were not common names and that was common. Their names were Delindo and Agostino Pesci. They were from the ...

records from Schignano, Italy
In my research for my family from Schignano I have found that the available records only go back to the mid 1800's. I think this was about the time of the Austrian Hungarian invasion. Could records beyond this tie be in those countries? If so haw can I find them. Thank you for your help. Teresa ...

Re: meaning of Detto
Are there changes after so many generations in the detto. If the detto is an administrative issue and because they tend to name their children a family name then how does the detto keep this straight. For instance my grandfather Miro had multiple sons and some had the name Miro. How then does this ...

Re: meaning of Detto
In Schignano where my fathers family is from there are many Peduzzi's. My question is when are the dettos assigned and how far back do they go. My fathers family is detto Coaza. If I go back the male line are they all Coaza's or does it change at some point. It is hard to believe that in a small ...

meaning of Detto
My fathers came from Schignano where there were many families that belonged to his mother's family (Ceresa) and his father's family (Peduzzi) I have always believed that the Detto or clan name was to keep them from marrying relatives. Is this true? If so, how do families get their detto, how often ...
