birthdates off
I am researching in Borgetto, Sicily and have a question or at lease an opinion. I have found a death record in 1855 for a gentleman who according to the record was 60 years old at death, which would make his birth year about 1794/5. Noted is the wife's name, and his parents name. However in this ...

I see some records where the parents are unknown and there are names listed with the phrase either 'sub cura' or under the are of - or - 'sub tutela' or under the protection of. Anyone know what the technical difference is?

Names on early 1800's baptismal records
I'm trying to make sense of the names on baptismal records. An example would be Rosaria Vincentia Antonina Petruso. Which of those names is the name they use through their life, that is, on a marriage record, which name should I be looking for?

document interpretation
This document, found in church marriage records in Borgetto refers to a marriage on 29 Jul 1810 of Sancto Congialosi and Vincentia Lucchese, But I'm uncertain of it's purpose. I suspect it may be an annulment, but want to get an opinion than my suspicions. Thanks

marriage record interpretation
Lioking at this marriage record for Antonino Congialosi and Maria Prainito, I have a couple of questions. The male's parents are not listed except a Spiritu Sanctu and he was raised in care of Jesualdo Congialosi and Anna Rappa. What is the difference between the designation 'A Spiritu Sanctu' and ...

Marriage Boon
I have been spending a lot of time pouring over records from Borgetto and I came across a phenomenon that I wonder what the explanation could be. On 14 June of 1860, an inexplicable number of marriages occurred. In a relatively small town you'd expect to see two or three or so marriages recorded ...

interpretation of phrase on birth record
The birth record below shows the father's name, Salvator Fedele, but the birth mother is recorded as an unmarried woman - followed by non- concenting, and then another phrase, which I don't understand. I believe this is key to their relationship. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: marriage record interpretation
Thanks Erudita, I'll keep digging in that area. I did find a baptism for a Julia Porcarello at about the right time frame and Julia does not seem a frequently used name, at least in Borgetto. The parents are Giovanni Porcarelli and Maria Costanza. I looked for death records for the parents and I did ...

wife or widow
I get a bit confused on the terms for wife and widow. If for example, a death record is for Vincenti Abate uxor Maria Costanza, does this indicate Maria is his widow who is still alive? And then if it is Vincenti Abate vir Maria Costanza, does this mean she pre-deceased her husband?

This is a little different than most of the marriage records in Borgetto that I have seen, and I know the a pattern isn't a hard and fast rule, so I just wanted an opinion if I have this right. The witnesses are Francesco Vicari and Francesca Rappa (usually at the end of the document)? and then the ...

iterpretation of marriage record
I am trying to sort out the information regarding the groom in this marriage for Paulo Lo Forte and Francesca Franzone. Is it saying that he is from Portifino, Genoa and is now in Borgetto? and what is the spelling of his mother's last name. And finally, what is the significance of the 'D' before ...

Because of language and alphabet differences between church records and civil records many names don't record the same in Lantin and Italian. Or in the case of older records when civil records aren't available, there is only Latin. Joanny/Joanna or Xaviero for examples. I guess I'm looking for ...
