Re: Help with translation

Thank you also. If anyone has any suggestions where to start educating myself on the norms of daily life during this period of Italy, I would definitely appreciate the help.

Re: Help with translation

I would agree with you. I found the town Potenza on the map. Why would the passport have that place listed? It's a long, long way from Palermo. I have started reading and researching Italian customs, rituals, etc, trying to understand the world they lived in. I hate to admit I know more about Ancien...

Re: Help with translation

So the image is a copy of my grandfather's birth certificate - Vincenzo Stropoli b. 1893 not his father, Vincenzo b. ca 1855?

Re: Help with translation

Hate to ask but could you look at this birth certificate please. I posted earlier with imageshack. One response said it was too smudged and unreadable. Re: Help with translation

So have two gaps 1888 - 1893. Could have been gone or could have children die. No way to know. Children: Grace b. 1885 Sicily Antonio b. 1888 Sicily Peter b. 1893 Sicily Vincenzo (James) b. 1894 Sicily Carmen b. 1898 in New York. We thought the last gap 1894 - 1898 explained by him traveling to Amer...

Re: Help with translation

An older relative that lived near my grandfather in New Jersey gave all us the passport papers and a birth certificate of Vincenzo Stropoli. He was under the impression it belonged to Vincenzo.

Re: Help with translation

Have opened postimage.org. Wants to know which message board software app to use in order to share. I'm new at this type of thing. With imageshack.com I just linked to the image after uploading.

Help with translation

Is this a travel voucher or passport? Family says passport to New Orleans, but no record of him landing there. Rest of family came to New York City, Ellis Island in 1897. Is this a real document? My Gr-grandfather Vincenzo Stropoli. https://imageshack.com/i/poOdIle8j https://imageshack.com/i/pnRStJS8j
