Re: Help finding Italian records
I was hoping there was some source beyond FamilySearch (I tried antenati.cultura.gov.it but couldn't find anything), but I guess not. Apparently I just didn't try hard enough on Family Search.

Help finding Italian records
I am trying to find birth/marriage records for:
1. Luigi Pace, born in Italy (Liguria per Find a Grave but his son’s birth town of Petilia Policastro is more likely), on 4 December 1862 (per Find a Grave headstone and 1862 per census data)
2. married to Maria Carbelli (apparently died before 1905 ...

Re: Help deciphering handwriting
Thank you so much PicaJ and AngelaGrace56 for finding those two records. I am trying not to take advantage of your incredible generosity, so I have done my best to transcribe everything I can from those records.

Re: Help deciphering handwriting
Wow, PicaJ and mmogno! Thank you both so much. I never would have figured all that out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Interestingly, the birth record PicaJ found also lists San Simeone, tightening the connection between the two - I was concerned that Golino is a very common name in Marcianise ...

Re: Help deciphering handwriting
Good call on the marriage thing. Now I see the date on there - she was married in 1908 in Marcianise, so that makes sense.
And thank you so much for Lorenzo's birth record!
Still looking for help with that street name - there may be a visit someday....

Re: Need help with "I" and "J" in records
So I am incredibly late to this party, but this post was very helpful in better understanding why De Majo became De Maio in the United States. Looking back at the records, I realize now it doesn't look exactly like a "j," but more like an "i" with a tail (that tail was probably how they denoted ...
