Go to www.ellisisland.org and look up his entry into the UDSA as an immigrant and look over his manifest for the town of origin in italy he came from and then go to the Family History Library and request a miucrofilm for the town which you can rent for a modest fee and if you don't have the money ...

i spoke with people from egypt, iraq etc they confirmed the arabic origin of my last name. i think it comes from the word "Qatarah" or some variation of some sort of it. arab heritage in west sicily is well known as well
