here is less of the text at the original scanned quality. the individual was identified as raimondo di nocera. the given name does not look like raimondo to me.

because i scanned it at 400 dpi it's a big file which i had to reduce to post. i could try to crop it or forward the original via email. i'll work on cropping the original first. thanks.

cuius essentially means citizen, in this case just identifying citizen with parents unknown. the letter is definitely i not j, i have seen the older style writing like that in a variety of italian documents.

the word after maria rosa is her surname, but i cannot decipher it. the other words, variations of parenti ignoti - parents unknown.

just to share a hunch. i was able to find a manifest for the greatgrandfather giuseppe raiano who listed his place in italy as alife which by my guessing may have been taken by an american to be oliva - not too far a stretch. there are raiano family in caserta. might be an explanation. might try mic...

thanks for all of the suggestions. the only bit of information i have to go on is a 1942 obituary which identifies he was from oliva, reggio di calabria. i am going to try to find him in ellis island. i do have us census information which indicates he came here in the late 1800's and lived in nyc un...
