Re: Zambrotta family
It’s starting to look like you may be related to quite a few Zambrotta’s in Brooklynensurrection25 wrote:... Doesn't seem like there is that many Zambrotta's out there until you type the name in white pages in New York. Just by having the same last name, does that automatically mean you are related somewhere in time to all Zambrotta's?
Sabino’s family in Brooklyn was pretty extensive
Another possible brother Francesco

Hi,
I believe your grandfather Doninick was my great grandfather Giovanni brother he also had a brother sabino and I think Francesco and he had a sister too. I have the whole Zambrotta family tree on ancestry if you'd like to take a look send me an e-mail and I'll send you a link to the tree.

We think 'ensurrection25' g-grandfather is Sabino.
You're most likely cousins

Re: Zambrotta family
So Sabino was my grandfather Dominick's dad... wow you guys get a lot of information regarding this stuff. I would have never been able to find all of this. So I am assuming that there is quite a few living relatives then considering the large amount of Zambrotta's in Brooklyn. That is good, because I have no family left, it is only my mother and my stepfather. I know of no one else living; especially from my father side.

Re: Zambrotta family
This is incredibly exciting....I have done some genealogy in my day and stumbled upon this thread. Many of the names you all are referencing are in my immediate family. Some background and comments regarding the string below:
> Most anyone with the name Zambrotta in NYC are related. There are "branches" in Ridgewood, Maspeth, Williamsburgh, Middle Village, etc. If you know NYC, you know these neighborhoods are relatively close to each other
> Williamsburgh in particular is where all these NYC/Brooklyn streets are i.e., Skillman, Withers, Lorimer, Manhattan, Newton, Meeker
> There are a few Dominicks in the family, making it difficult to align family branches. My grandfather is Demetrio by birth (B 5/9/1902) but was called Dominick. Another Dominick in the family was called "lefty" to differentiate him from my grandfather.
> Sabino was, I think, the same person as Savino (also called Sammy) who along with Nick were my grandfathers brothers.
> Many in the family worked in NYC sanitation department. Demetrio's father's occupation was listed as "rag picker" on his death certificate.
> John Sambro was my great-grandfather (same person as Giovanni Zambrotta - see below) - and father to Demetrio. Catherine (Katie), Josie, Sabino (Sammy) and Nick were his siblings. There was also Frank, Rosie, and Danny. These are people who I grew up with back on Long Island.
> Giovanni Zambrotta (aka John Sambro B ~1873?) and Maria Citera (B 10/12/1874) were my great-grandparents (parents of Demetrio, my grandfather). My records show their name as "Citro" which is possibly an unintended simplification. They lived for many years at 333 Manhattan Ave in Brooklyn.
> Maria Citera's parents were Nicola Cetera (yet another spelling of the name?) and Rosa Bianculli
> DIANEB - I would love to see what you have on the family tree - maybe we can fill in some blanks??
Sorry for throwing so much out there....but as you all probably know, when you see something that links the past so closely, it is quite exciting. Looking forward to seeing what else we all know that overlaps.

Re: Zambrotta family
Wow that is crazy.....I was actually still waiting for Dianeb to send me the link to the family tree, but I have not heard from her. I figured that most in NYC would be related, it is not that common of a name. NYC sanitation was my entire fathers side, including him for 20 yrs until retirement. He used to tell me of the days when you had to have an Italian last name to even work for the sanitation dept. If I can be of any help, or you have any other information to share, please let me know, or send a message. I am most definitely interested in seeking out family, as I know I have quite a bit unknown to me and vice versa I am sure.
To: vzambrotta and ensurrection25,
I will send you the link to the Nappi Family tree (that is my fathers side) My mothers mother was Gelsomina Zambrotta and her grandparents were Giovanni and Maria. however i need your e-mail address in order to invite you. It comes directly from ancestry.com I have some pictures of Maria Citera, Doninick, Sam and Nick (Maria and Giovanni's sons) Maybe between us we can fill in the blanks.

Re: Zambrotta family
Thanks Diane B.
I had a theory that Gelsomina was child born around 1897 to Giovanni and Maria Zambrotta. The fact that Gelsomina is a name from the family supports that theory - as Italians often name their children after parents and grandparents. It's a good way to tell me I am on the right track sometimes!
You can e-mail me at vzambrot@columbus.rr.com. Would love to see the photos. And yes - no doubt it seems we can fill in blanks.

Re: Zambrotta family
I belive I had met and I was/am a far distant relative of Delores Zambrotta. If it is the same I used to see Delores and her husband Al a few times a year at my grandmothers house in the early 1990's. If I recall right Zambrotta was her maiden name. I am certain that she was a 2nd cousin of my grandmother, she was the daughter of a cousin to my grandmothers parents. I am certain at the time Delores and Al had lived at the time in Bensonhurst (1990's). I feel bad but I realize right now I forget Al last name, but I have some photos of them about put away in a box.
I will check on her maiden name with some relatives that may recall.
If so, we may have some records and info that may help.

Re: Zambrotta family
I checked my available records and verified the Delores I had asked/posted about, and thought may be a zambrotta was not Zambrotta but a Nappi.
Be well.
Be well.
