Naturalization Of Children
Re: Naturalization Of Children
Please don't take this as a definitive answer, but I suspect that a minor child could not be naturalized while living overseas. Are there any naturalization records for your grandfather?

Re: Naturalization Of Children
Unfortunately because his son was still a minor and not born in the USA your great-grandfather lost his Italian citizenship when his father naturalized here.SFC66 wrote:I have found out quite a bit since my last post just a week ago.
I was hoping to pursue Jure Sanguinis through father-grandfather (I dont qualify through the other scenarios) but I believe the following facts finally kill my chances. If somebody could confirm either way I would appreciate it.
* My paternal great grandfather naturalized in 1930.
* My paternal grandfather immigrated from Italy at 16 in 1931.
* I have read about the law to 1940 that automatically extended the parents
citizenship to children under 18. Would this automatically apply to children
residing in Italy at the time of the parents naturalization?
Thanks!
If he had been born in the USA, his father could have naturalized the day after he was born and he would still be able to claim Italian citizenship, but because he was born in Italy, he could not, and essentially in the eyes of Italy, naturalized with his father in 1930.

Unfortunately, James is right.
