I picked a couple of names at random on facebook with the same surname as my ggreatgrandfather I have a reply but its in Italian.

Potresti contattare l'Ufficio Anagrafe del comune di Scarmagno per sapere se nell'anno 1851 è registrata la nascita di Carlo Bessolo. Buona fortuna!

Scarmagno is a small town in Torino (Turin) province in the Piemonte (Piedmont) Region, the e-mail for the Comune di Scarmagno is:

scarmagno@comune.scarmagno.to.it

Just 2 kms from Scaragno there is a hamlet "Bessolo" from where probably originated the "Bessolos". The Deputy Mayor's surname is "Bessolo" and that's also the surname of a councilman in the City Hall.
You have to write a request in Italian and you can look for Form letters here
