Need Help in Translating Old Birth Record

Post by margaretanne »

Hello All, It's me again...Margaret Anne. I would appreciate anyone's help in translating an old birth record. I am attaching copies of the birth record of my Gr-Gr Uncle Prospero Ruggiero. What I can make out is:

- Date: 187?
- brother of Francesco Ruggiero fu Liberato (born in Roseto Valfortore) and Concetta Cavalieri fu Pasquale?, born ?

It is confusing because the other birth records I have found follow a format and are easier to translate. I think if I could get this record translated, it would reveal so much more information about my Italian roots.

Thanks so much to all the members who help those of us not well-versed in the Italian language. You are all blessings to the rest of us!

Sorry Elba, when I previewed my note, the images appeared in the body of the message. I'll paste the links below under file content and also in the body of this message. I hope this works.

Thanks for the attachments, but I'm afraid my eyesight isn't good enough to allow me to read them. That's why I often have to wait for someone who can read the documents to transcribe them and the trannslation isn't a problem. But rest assured that there are many very good translators here who will be able to read them and translate. It's a question of waiting 'til one comes along!

Thank you, Elba. If I get no translation, I'll try to enlarge the records.

Der Margaretanne if your in a hurry go to www.freetranslation.com and ask them how much they charge..There is not too much to translate but since the writing is difficult with my equally bad eyes this is the best I can do for you as well. =Peter=

Hi,
the document is not easy to read anyway, to me, this is:

Act 146 dated November 28, 1872
Prospero Ruggiero son to Francesco and Concetta Cavalieri

The declarant is Francesco Ruggiero son to the late Liberato, age 54(?), countryman or peasant (bracciale), born in Roseto Valforte, living in Faeto(?).
The baby is a boy, born at 9.00 on the same date as above, to his wife Concetta Cavalieri, daughter to the late Pasquale, 47 years old, countrywoman, living with him in their house located in Firelli (street?). He declares to give to the boy the name: Prospero Ruggiero.

Witnesses are Bartolomeo Benedetto and Michele Gallucci.

There is no mention of Concetta's place of birth. Ages are not easy to read. If you can post a better image I might confirm or correct. The boy was born at 9.00 but it is not mentioned if a.m. or p.m.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you, thank you, Ada and Peter!

You have given me some wonderful information about my Italian family. I can now begin to research Liberato and Pasquale.

I will see if I can post better images for you, Ada. Your translation is priceless!
