If anyone could offer information on how to obtain birth/death/marriage records from towns/villages in Sicily it would be a great help.

I just found some new information about my great grandparents...though much is difficult to sort through with all the name changes. I believe my paternal Great-Grandmother's name is Guiseppina Allesandro but her brother and sister (who stayed in Sicily) went by D'Allesandro or D'Alessandro. Supposedly my Grandmother "Pina", who also went by Josephine in America, was my great-grandfathers family maid/servant. They fell in love, and because that was forbidden she sailed to America..he followed (I am not sure how soon or late afterwards), they married in America and had 9 children (my grandfather being the youngest). My Great-Grandfather's name was Giuseppe Puccio and I only know he sailed in the early 1900s....not much information, I know, but I'm trying.

HI: only D'Alessandro and Alessandro is exact spelling this surname versions.. very diffused in all Italy; also first name, correct spelling is Giuseppa (diminutive Giuseppina). For to help you please let me know year emigration of Giuseppina...and , also Giuseppina's age of emigration, final destination...you know this data?
are 8 Giuseppa Alessandro from Sicily's village on ellis island: Oliveri, Tortorici, Camporeale, Floresta, Patti;
and are sure 6 Giuseppa D'Alessandro from Sicily; villages:Castelvetrano, Villabate, Oliveri, Nissoria, Palermo...

There are 88 Giuseppe Puccio in the ellis island record so the town of origin is needed as well. Peter

Thank you very much for your help. I will go back to the ellis island web page and redo my searches with the correct spellings etc. I also now know they came from Castelvetrano, Sicily.

I believe she came to america first...and he followed soon after. Its a love story to the end and with 9 children to boot.

Thanks again and if I find their parent's names...where would I go to find records or anything about them?

Finally! Go to the family history llibrary olf the Mormon church nearest your home and rent out the microfilm (they order it from Utah) and is inexpensive for the civil records of Castelvetrano (trapani province) which date back to 1820 and go on to 1910. You can trace the family births,marriages and deaths. If you wish to obtain specific documents then you need a full name and year of birth and you request it from the municipal offices in Castelvetrano in Italian language. Let me know. Peter

Thank you (again) for your information....do you know another way to obtain the Microfilm documents as I'm in Scotland right now.? Do you think I could order them online or through the mail? Hopefully I can gain access to a microfiche reader.....
I'm just so excited...things are finally coming together...but even more curious!

Not really. However, they may do things differently in Scotland so why not call the Mormon church people in your area and ask them? From my experience they normally request the microfilm fro Utah and it is sent to the requesting library and to you. Peter
