Today the Surname (Cognome) CARCHITTO is found principally in the tiny town of Sezze, in Latina, Lazio, Italy. However, family tradition has it that the family comes from Sardinia, from the city of Oristano. It was apparently there that Dr. Bernardino Carchitto was ennobled by Carlo Emanuele III of Savoy (1701-1773), who was king of Sardinia from 1730 until 1773.
Any ideas how I can find out more about this ennoblement? Is there an address or contact person? Is there a book which may help?
Thank you very much.

CARCHITTO Ennoblement by Carlo Emanuele III
CARCHITTO Ennoblement by Carlo Emanuele III
If you go to www.google.com and insert Carlo Emanuele 111 Savoy in the title and selct DYNASTY AND DIPLOMACY OF THE COURT OF SAVOY. This is a treatsie on His reign and there may be a refernce to Carchitto buit there are none apparent in the title by adding Carchitto to that title. There is a website www.sgmprogetti.it/araldica/cerca.asp that concerns itself with italian heraldry. You may also wish to resdearch www.familysearch.org under heraldry for the name and the town Latina in Lazio as well as Sardinia. It is an interesting bit of research. Peter
