Can someone please help me.I need these documents for my appointment at the Miami consulate. I only have 3 months left
I have the original naturalization paper for my GGF, but it is so delicate it is about to fall apart. I need to get another from the USCIS . There are two choices on the site. One is for a replacement document costing 380 dollars, and the other is a Naturalization Certificate file (c-file) costing 35 dollars. Which one do I need to use for my duel citizenship requirements?
Also I need my GGF death cert from Rome. He was a US citizen when he died over there. The first time I wrote rome and requested it, I got a reply stating they need a signed copy of my identification. So I complied with their request when sending another letter for the certificate. I haven't heard anything in months. Should I try again or is there another way to obtain this document?
If someone could reply it might make this easier. I don't want to have this process messed up by one error. If worse comes to worse I can use the original Nat paper but i will never get that back after turning it in. I am mainly concerned about the death. Thanks for any help !!!!!!!!

Regarding the naturalization certificate--you should get it back. Make several copies of it, show them the original and ask that it be returned for your family records. You might also try to obtain the NARA documents (declaration, petition and oath). These can be obtained in a matter of weeks, and since you have the certificate and certificate number, they can easily be located by the NARA office serving the area in which your ggf naturalized.
Regarding the death certificate, I would suggest you try again. You may want to send it through registered mail if possible (I don't know if it is for out-of-country delivery). If you have relatives or friends in Rome, perhaps they can get it in person.
One thing to remember is that of all the documents, the death certificate is the least important. In cases in which the ancestor never naturalized, the death certificate helps to confirm Italian citizenship. Since your ggf did naturalize, all the death certificate demonstrates is that he died. I doubt it will be too much of an issue especially in Miami.
