CEFALU and ISNELLO records search? Gibilmanna records?

Post by connie loud »

I am trying to locate the correct site to search for births, baptisms, deaths, marriages for the towns of Cefalu and for Isnello. I do not read/write/speak Italian -- wish I could -- as I am trying to help find ancestors for my mother in law. For example, I have a birth year of 1852 for an Artillio Bartolotta -- how can I find it? Will I find his parents' names, and if there are church records available, will it tell me more about the entire family?
There is a story in the family that Filippo Bartolotta, b. 1877 and his sister Rosa were raised in Gibilmanna Monastery after mother, Giusippina, died. Father was Artillio Bartolotta, and I found him on a trip to the U.S. in 1908 at age 56 -- anything would be appreciated.

Attilio Bartolotta coming from Isnello(on ship's manifest from ellisisland.org, place birth is Isnello and relative in Italy is Giuseppe Bartolotta brother) ;
more probable the monastery is:
"Convento di S.Maria di Gibilmanna
Loc. Gibilmanna

Thank you very much for the correct church name and address/phone. If I send a letter with a request for information, is it appropriate to send a donation to the church along with the request? Also, is there a site you can recommend where I can write the letter in English and translate my words into Italian? I do not read/write/speak Italian, so I want to be very respectful when I do write a letter to this church. Thank you again!

Well, there is the LDS Films at any mormon church...what a beauty! and you also have Jennifer's page! And it is also a beauty: It has what you need, but not all the years are there.

I have the LDS film for 1881-1993 right now, so it would not help you. But you can't beat the $5.50 price you pay to see the actual books on film!

Ohh, BTW, the name Bartolotta does not appear to be very common in Cefalu...at least not as common as Greco, Cimino and Culotta.

Good luck

Hi,

Bartolotta is a very common name in Castrofililpo, Provincia di Agrigento. My friend's family came from there.
