User "oilman19" not allowed to post

Post by liviomoreno »

I have received the following email from the user "oilman19". Is there a way to help him?
Hi Livio,

I am "oilman19". Yours is the only E-mail address I know from various posts. I am totally unable to function on IG. My log-in permits me to get in, but once I change screens, I am "anonymous" again. I cannot post anything or even send a PM.

I am not aware that I have done anything to cause the Moderator to bounce me from the forum. My problem exists regardless of how many different computers I try.

I am hoping you can get word to whomever can help me solve this dilemma.

Thank you,

Jim

If he is using Internet Explorer, I would suggest clearing cookies and other temp files. Tools -> Internet Options -> Delete...

The exact parameters depend on the Interet Explorer version.

My computer is always on, IE is always open, and I almost never log off this site.

I don't seem to be having any difficulty; I tried opening a separate Mozilla Firefox window and logging on there. Seems to work okay (I am using that window now).

Does the problem still exist? As I can see his user name is listed as being on site now?

Yes, Tessa78 mentioned that he could see himself as logged on but could not post or send PMs. Oliman19 erased all the cookies but he still has the problem.

It would be helpful if at least one of them would install a browser not already on their system and see if the problem persists.

Mozilla Firefox download: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html

Apple Safari browser (works with Windows or MacOS): http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

Opera browser: http://www.opera.com/products/

I don't think the problem is with the browser... A person with admin authority on this forum is required.

I just wanted to throw it out there in case the admin. cant fix it. I used IE and recently, several times, it threw me off the internet in the middle of college tests! Once I switched to Firefox it stopped happening.

Well, if I have Admin authority, it is the first I have heard of it.

Livio, Alicia (DeFilippis), and I are all Masters. ItalySearcher and VJ (both have posted within the last hour or so) are Elite and Master in that order.

On the other hand, a Newbie posted this morning at 9:37 Eastern time (GMT-4).

I have created a temporary email account (1983767473@sbcglobal.net) if anyone else wants to send me an email with the particulars of their situation and I will re-post in this thread. What browser are you using, when did you first notice the problem, etc.

No I dont think Livio means we have authority. Maybe one of the moderators?

Mail received from Tessa78
Hello Livio,

I have been reading the messages posted related to the problem using IG. I did all the things suggested (deleted cookies, installed another browser - Mozilla Firefox) but I still can't post. "Anonymous" continues to show up when I try to post, yet my user name is listed in the members online list. I tried logging on...then logging off immediately, but my user name continues to show. I don't think it is my browser.

Thanks to everyone who has taken an interest in this problem. Hope an administrator can rectify it.

Hello!
How frustrating.
If wldspirit :D can't fix the glitch, there's no doubt that she has already sent Edmondo, our forum owner/adminstrator a note.
If anyone needs his email it's listed in the forum member's list:
webmaster @ italiangenealogy.com (remove the spaces before and after the @)
Valarie

edit:
Note, it happened to me a few minutes ago:
- screen changed to User Info: Anonymous
- I couldn't log in
I signed off my server for a few minutes, when I logged back in it had corrected itself.

Tessa and Jim (Oilman) - not an ideal solution, but I would be curious to know what would happen if you tried creating a new account.
