Post by sdn59 »

Need help in locating any information of Antonio Belfi born 1845 in Vodo Italy and his wife Margaret Zammichieli. Looking for his parents and hers, not sure if she is from Vodo also. Immigrated to United States (NJ) between 1887-1895. Any help appreciated.

Vodo Cadore is a small comune of 936 inhabitants. According to the search engine at italia.indettaglio.it, Belfi is the third most common surname and Zammichieli is the seventh most common surname. In addition, Vodo Cadore is the only comune in the region of Veneto where the surname Zammichieli appears. So it seems likely that Margarita's family also originated in Vodo Cadore.

The LDS doesn't have any films listed for Vodo Cadore. You can write for civil records here:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Nazionale, 19
32040 Vodo Cadore (BL)
Italia

and for church records here:

Parrocchia Di Vinigo
Via Festin
32040 Vodo Di Cadore (BL)
Italia

PS: See you at the FHC.

Thanks for the response with the 1900 Census information. I did have it already, as well as 1910, 1920, & 1930. They moved out of the Bridgewater area sometime after the 1900 census to the Bloomfield NJ area. Seems as though, the Belfi/Zammichieli families might be related to the Longos, Gregoris, Talaminis, and Marchonis. Any help with who Margaret Zammichieli's parents or siblings or Anthony Belfi's are would be greatly appreciated.

See you at the center on Tuesday John!

Happy Easter

My grandfather was born in Vodo and immigrated to New Jersey as a young child. They went back and forth a few times. I am related to the Belfi's and Zammichieli on my grandmother's side (she was Teresa Spalmacin) and Talamini's on my grandfather's side. My great grandfather's first wife was a Del Favaro. I have gotten some information from Vodo if you would like to connect. I can send my email through the message or you can post and give me yours.

My mother is a Zammikiel - changed from Zammichieli when her grandfather (?) came to the US from Vodo di Cadore. He was raised outside of Pittsburgh in the town of Turtle Creek.

My husband and I visited Vodo di Cadore in 2001 and met a not so distant relative - Angelina Zammichieli - who at the time ran a local inn. We spent the afternoon going through her photos and letters from her relatives in the states. The other family name is Talamini but I don't believe we talked about any Belfi's in my family history.

I recently acquired Angelina's email address if you'd like to reach out to her to learn more. I don't believe she lives in Vodo anymore, but is still in the general area.
