Question about image shack

Post by DeFilippis78 »

I see that people can post pictures of censuses and manifests, etc on here and I cant do that. I see they use something called Image Shack. I know I have to download it but then what do you do? Im not sure how it works and how I can get the pictures on here?

You do not need to download anything to your computer... Goto http://imageshack.us/ and follow the instructions.

The best part is that imageshack will hold dozens of images, so if there is something you need to go back to, you've got easy access.

It must take forever to upload pictures though. I have tons and tons of censuses, records, draft cards, etc for my family. Also Im wondering, if my computer crashes, are the pictures safe there? Like if I got a new computer, wouldnt I be able to log into my imageshack account and still have all those records? Thats very appealing if true

They will still be there, I've changed computers three times since creating my account at imageshack.

Oh that is awesome. Its worth uploading images for hours just to know they will still be there safe. Not to mention they would be on ancestry also plus I print them out. Good stuff!

Alicia, get yourself a little flash drive, they are very cheap, and you can put a load of data on them. I use an 8GB one that fits several hundred pictures, loads of documents, and all my work stuff!
You can re-write them whenever you need, and can pop them into any computer if you are working somewhere else, or want to take your photos to show someone.
It isn't worth the massive cost and stress of losing data if something goes wrong with your computer.
Of course, putting them on line is also a great option as in theory they are then out there forever, but do the external hard drive thing as well, it's so worth it!
Searching for my great x3 grandfather Raffaele CIACCIA, also known as Raphael/Ralph CHURCH. He was born in Napoli around 1792 and arrived in London before 1812 with his brother Saverio CIACCIA, where they married sisters Ann and Jane FURNEAUX. He switched between CHURCH and CIACCIA all his life, which has made it difficult enough to pin him down. I want to find his origin in Italy.

I suddenly cannot open any documents which have been uploaded to the forum using imageshack, nor can I access the website itself using either Firefox or Internet Explorer. No changes have been made to my computer which would have caused the problem. When attempting to open a marriage document just posted by chickenwoman, I did get the following message-Firefox doesn't know how to open this address because the protocol (tranhttp) isn't associated with any program. I am not getting any message when attempting to open other posted imageshack documents. Any ideas as to what could be causing the problem?

I presume you have figured this out by now, but the problem is that chickenwomen posted a bad link which was somehow prefixed with four extra characters, "tran".

When you remove those four characters the link works properly.

Thanks, Carmine. Yes, I saw there was a problem with her link, but I was having a problem with all imageshack documents, as well as accessing the website directly. We've determined that the problem was caused by a faulty phone adapter, of all things. So much for VOIP phones.
