CAROCCIA from MAGLIANO VETERE (SA)
CAROCCIA from MAGLIANO VETERE (SA)
With the help of suanj, I have been able to find out that my grandfather, Fiorentino Caroccia was born in Magliano Vetere in 1891 to Carmine Caroccia and Francesco Caroccia (yes, my greatgrandmother had the same surname). My grandfather came to NY aboard the Florida arriving at Ellis June 14, 1906. They have him listed as last name Fiorentino, first name Carocci. The manifest for this boat is missing. I have filed form 81 but that was nearly 6 months ago and have heard nothing. Same goes for my request for a certificate of family from Magliano Vetere. I have checked the phone directory and there are only 11 Caroccia's listed in Mag. Vet. and it looks like the population is about 900, if I am reading that right. My 1 remaining uncle tells me that we are the last of the line and I should give it up. My instinct tells me that if this town is so small, then possibly some or all of the Caroccia's who emigrated to the USA from Mag Vet are related and that some or all of the remaining Caroccia's in Mag Vet are related. Coincidentally, on the same ship (Florida) there was an Antonio Carocei (possible spelling error) from Mag Vet. My grandfather was 15 and Antonio is listed as 19. Thanks for giving me a chance to vent and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
