Matteo Cardone

Greetings, I am looking for information on my Great-grandfather Matteo Cardone.
He was born in Italy abt 1868 but I don't know where.
According to the 1920 US census he immigrated to USA in 1890.
His wife's name is Concetta Veneziano also born in Italy.
He shows up on the 1920 US census as Michael Cordone (last name was miss-transcribed. I would like to know who his parents were and where in Italy he was born. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked for the 1920 Census you mentioned but only found a Michael Cordone (your spelling) with a wife Nicolina. Is that your GGF?

If he arrived in 1890, the manifest will not show much information, so we can look for clues in other documents. Can you provide any other details? names of children, occupation, date of death? Anything will help.

He was a widower in 1920.
The 1920 census is the only information I have for him.
His children are: Pasquale, Alfred, Nicolina, Filomena, Alvera, and Emil. The census lists his occupation as carpenter in a shipyard.
Matteo and Concetta married on August 26,1894. He lived in Brooklyn N.Y.

Also, is there a link to the information on the marriage? Unfortunately for me it doesn't list their parents names.

You will need to request the record from New Jersey to find out parents' names and places of birth.

It is important to know the exact coume of birth, as well as an approximate date of birth, when writing to Italy for records. Having parents' names is a big help since often there are many similar names in the records.

When you write to Italy, write your letter in Italian. You can use this link to generate a letter in Italian.
