Newspaper Archives

I'm having trouble finding on-line newspaper archives for obituaries from Essex County, Massachusetts. I've not had success with this free on-line source: http://theoldentimes.com/index.html or this one: http://news.google.com/archivesearch and this one doesn't include Massachusetts: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/

My people aren't famous enough to be in the Boston Globe, but I checked anyway: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/boston/advancedsearch.html

I tried searching Ancestry through my local library a few weeks ago and I have been discouraged from trusting my money to the "world's largest on-line newspaper archive" because of these reviews: http://www.cyberjournalist.net/news/003889.php

Have I overlooked something? Thank you for any suggestions.

1) Check to see if your city is covered by newspaperarchive.com: http://www.newspaperarchive.com/BrowseLocations.aspx

2) I have had excellent results contacting the research desk at a public library in the area of interest and asking if they would search their newspaper archives for a given obituary. If you can give a specific date of death, you may have very good luck trying the same.

PS: I just read the NewspaperArchive.com reviews you linked to and will just say that I have not had any problems with my account, including the one time that I cancelled it for an extended period (before re-signing up for new research).
