I recently received a copy of a birth record (Altomonte, Cosenza) where the person's name is Francesco Agesilao Pandolfi. I have never seen the name Agesilao. Is there an English equivalent?
Thanks!
Michelle

This seems to be another Italian first name for a male which has no equivalent in English. The name itself is of Greek origin. There was a king of the Greek city-state, Sparta, with that name. It was also the name of an opera written by an ancient Greek writer.

In english version it must be: Agesilaus

Hi, Did you get your copy from Altomonte. I have made two requests and got nothing. Cosenza did sent one no problem but I am not sure I sent it the the right place in Altomonte or what. My great grandfather Beniamino Franco was from their. My greatgrand mother was a Capparelli.
