I am hoping you can help. I went to see my Great Great Grandparents gravestone over the weekend, and found an interesting carving.
The headstone is the uppermost stone. The lower stone has the families last name, Barretta. There is a middle stone between these two that says
J Genitori
P.P.
I saw genitori translates as parents from Italian to English, but that doesn't account for the rest of it. Does this mean something in Italian Culture? Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
They are from Saviano, Caserta Province

Re: Carving on Great Great Grandparents Gravestone
P.P. is essentially the equivalent of our Rest in Peace.

My initial reaction was that the J. Genitori was the deceased person's name with Genitori being a surname. I thought the P.P. below it could be the an abbreviation of the Latin words Patri Patriae-which was a title.
Wouldn't "rest in peace" be abbreviated in Italian as in English as R.I.P. for "riposi in pace?"
