Albanese family of Busso (CB) - Pittsburgh/Cleveland
Albanese family of Busso (CB) - Pittsburgh/Cleveland
Hi,
I am looking for more information on my great grandfather's family.
His name was Antonio Albanese and he was born in Busso, Campobasso in 1889. He came to America in 1909 and married my great grandmother Filomena Palmieri, also of Busso, in Cleveland in 1913. Antonio died outside Chicago in 1976, 2 months before I was born.
According to the Ellis Island records, when he came to America he was with a Nunzio Albanese and they both went to Pittsburgh to join a Clemente Albanese. I have found the WWI Draft registration card for Clemente Albanese of McKeesport, PA (near Pittsburgh) and he lists Antonio of Cleveland as his nearest relative.
Here is where things get fuzzy, no one in my family can remember Antonio visiting Pittsburgh or relatives from Pittsburgh visiting them, but they do recall him discussing an "Uncle Charlie", this could be an Americanization of Clemente.
I can not find any information on a Clemente Albanese or a Charlie Albanese in Pittsburgh or Cleveland dated after that WWI Draft Card.
What I want to know is:
- How were Nunzio and Clemente/Charlie Albanese related to my gr-gf? I'm assuming they were brothers based on the "Uncle" moniker.
- Did they stay in Pittsburgh? If not, where did they go? Did they have children?
If anyone has any info or can direct me to a good source to research Italian-Americans in Pittsburgh, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Albanese family of Busso (CB) - Pittsburgh/Cleveland
No, I hadn't run across that one yet. This gives me something to start with, thanks. I'll let you know if I turn anything up.
In addition, I'd like to also know if anyone has any general information on Busso. My grandmothers family comes from Ripalimosani and there is so many people from that commune who moved to either Cleveland or Rosario, Argentina and few other places. But I haven't noticed any similar patterns with Busso immigrants.
What characteristics separate these two villages?

Re: Albanese family of Busso (CB) - Pittsburgh/Cleveland
Possible WWI draft card for Nunzio Albanese (spelled Albaneso) in Pittsburgh PAI have found the WWI Draft registration card for Clemente Albanese of McKeesport, PA (near Pittsburgh) and he lists Antonio of Cleveland as his nearest relative.
(very light and hard to read)
Nearest relative is listed as Tony Albaneso in Cleveland, OH

Ahh, you've jogged my memory. I saw that image several months ago and I had Clemente and Nunzio mixed up on the draft cards. It was Nunzio who listed Antonio (Tony), presumably my gr-gf, of Cleveland on his draft card.

Re: Albanese family of Busso (CB) - Pittsburgh/Cleveland
On Ellis Island, I found what is probably my Clemente Albanese, of Busso, arriving in 1909 headed to Pittsburgh to see a cousin, though the name is illegible, it does not look like an Albanese.
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 1524060308
The Charles Albanese on the census above from Cleveland allegedly arrived in 1906, though I suppose that could be incorrect.

Tessa, those last two census listings are my great grandparents.
William D (later J) Albanese was my grandfather. They briefly lived in Geauga County Ohio while John Albanese was seriously ill before moving back to Cleveland.
