Italian History Books

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Thank you! Looking up this book has led me to a few others that also sound like good reads.
Researching surnames Nappo, Naples, Napoli, LaRosa, Sorrentino, Gambino. Also searching for info in Poggiomarino.

I would like to know the deep history especially form the area my family came from and perhaps see if there were reasons they left when they did.

ooops, I meant from. Poggiomarino and I have yet to determine where my maternal g.grandmother & g.grandfather were from.
