Birth Certificates from Palermo
I am trying to get my dual citizenship but the only thing holding me back are my grandparents birth certificates from Palermo, Sicily.
My grandfathers name was Francesco Lopes (Lopez -sometimes spelled) Giordano born 07/05/1887. HIs father was Raffaelle Giordano and mother was Emmanuella Lopes (z). I found records of his brother and sister but none for him.
I found them on this site.
http://sites.google.com/site/palermobir ... earch-site
My grandmothers name was Giuseppina Conti born 12/15/1891 in Palermo. Parents were Anna Crivello and Vincenzo Conti.
I am having a very hard time finding anything on my grandfather. I found ship info for my grandmother but not for my grandfather as I was told he "stowed" away to get here. She came to the U.S. when she was about 2 and he was 17 when he came.

Hello JILLJIORDANO
Welcome!
Do you have US Census records for your grandparents? If not, then...
Where did your grandparents live in US? What was Francesco's occupation?
Can you provide names of children?
Maybe we can find some other clues...

Re: Birth Certificates from Palermo
I just found out that my grandfather may have been born at home. Is there any place that might have some sort of record for that?
Re: Birth Certificates from Palermo
Most babies were born at home in Italy. It was then required by law that the infant be presented to the official at the Town Hall so the birth could be verified (by witnesses) and recorded (by the official).
That is the Civil Birth Record that is kept at the town level.
Once you find out the EXACT town of birth, you can request the record.

Re: Birth Certificates from Palermo
Is Monreale a town in Palermo? I remember my grandpa saying something about it
Re: Birth Certificates from Palermo
This great index goes from 1896 to 1905, your ancestors cannot be present in this index being born earlier... do you mean that you already asked to the Comune of Palermo a birth act and they told you that there isn't one?I found records of his brother and sister but none for him.
I found them on this site.

Monreale is a municipality, and it has its own civil record office.
I hope it helps

I believe his birthdate is right and he was born in Palermo but I dont know exactly where. A family member mentioned to me he might have been born at home. I found records of his younger brother and sister being born but none for him.ricbru wrote:I have checked between may and july 1887 on -monreale church records, nothing was found, maybe the date is wrong? maybe monreale is not the right place?
