Life in Argentina for the Sicilian Immigrant? - early 1900s

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Life in Argentina for the Sicilian Immigrant? - early 1900s

Post by Bette »

I am curious to know what life was like for the Sicilian immigrant who emigrated from Sicily to Buenos Aires, Argentina in the early 1900s. If the Sicilian only had farming skills, were they taken somewhere to work on farms? What opportunities were there for them? Does anyone know if there is information on this subject?

There is a book called Immigrants in the Lands of Promise: Italians in Buenos Aires and New York City, 1870 to 1914 by Samuel L Baily. I don't think the book will specifically answer your question, but you may find something of value to you in it anyway.
