Looking for more information on Paganussi/Casassa Family

Here is what I have so far I believe they are from Genoa, Italy

*Mary Paganussi (my grandmother)
*Giovanni (John) A Paganussi (great grandfather) born 1868-1936 died in Somerville,Ma
*he married Anna "annie" Casassa
Married in Boston, Massachusetts


Is Giovanni's father Domineco Paganussi (?) and mother Filomea Cavagnaro (?). and who were their parents.

How certain are you of the 1868 date?

A quick search at ancestry . com turns up only one passenger manifest for a person with that exact name; he was 33 years old in 1907, thus born in 1874. Line 6 on this manifest; his last residence was in Lucca.

There are also two censuses for John married to Anna/Annie (1910 and 1920) which put the date of birth at 1867/1868

I thought I was pretty certain but I'm having such a hard time finding information that maybe it's not right. I have very certain that his death date is 1936 because my dad remembers that his death date and his other grandfather were both 1936. I am postive that Anna Casassa was his wife and they lived in Somerville Ma on Elmwood Street.

Something to consider:

In the current Italian telephone directory, there are no listings at all for Paganussi, but 138 for Paganessi

Another quick search at ancestry . com on this new spelling was not productive however...

Paganuzzi and Paganucci would be other possibilities for an original spelling.

It would appear (from the census data) that Giovanni and Anna married in 1904 - quite possibly in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Perhaps you can request a copy of their marriage certificate which may include place and exact date of birth?

Carmine, yes that is them..my grandmother was Marie. I believe they were married in Boston at a church and I believe he was buried in West Roxbury Ma..would his death certificate have his parents names on it or just spouse?

The big problem with death certificates is that the information on them was mostly provided by next-of-kin (read "grieving widow" or "eldest child") and from memory. It is often mildly to wildly inaccurate.

But, heck, it's better than nothing when all you have is nothing.

Thank you! I guess I could give somerville a try and maybe try the churches in Boston..I think my dad might now the name of the church.. St. Mary's or something like that.
