Gally/Galli family from Como to London 1800

Post by lisa07 »

I wonder if anyone can help me to confirm a link to Italy for a Galli family which I have been researching in London. I have a marriage of Tomaso Galli and Sophia Powell at Christchurch in the Spitalfields area of London in 1839. Tomaso (a frame maker) was born in London around 1809. His father was George Galli (a looking glass maker) does not appear in any of the UK census. The Italians that lived in that area of London tended to come from Como or Lucca. I would love to be able to confirm that George was a migrant from Italy but am unsure how to go about doing that.

Thanks

Lisa

Hello Cristina

My name is Edwina Silo and my ancestor was Modesto Silo born in Lemma, Lake Como in 1803. His sister Giovanna Maria Silo married Pietro Antonio Galli and had two sons, Andrea & Giorgio Galli who emigrated to London and worked as mirror & frame makers. I suspect this is the same Galli family you mention ?

I visit Como very often ...

Look forward to hearing from you.
