Ficorilli Family of Rieti, Lazio

Post by CarolF5 »

Greetings;

My husband is William Louis Ianni Ficorilli. His father was: Benito Antonio Ianni Ficorilli born in Rieti, Lazio, Italy. My husband doesn't know too much about his father's family. His father was supposed to have had a twin. And my husband has an Uncle Remo and Cousin Paolo. His father had some family land-which was taken care of by my husband's brother (who is hard to find in the UK) The city of Rieti wanted the land to build on and so it was sold to the builder. We do have the letter from that along with the plots numbers.
We are trying to find out his father's mother and father's names along with others in the family.
We tried to locate info through the LDS-but no luck.
We do know that before he moved to England his father went to Rome and worked for a while. He met and married his wife in England and settled down in Blackburn. His wife was from Scotland.
How can we find out my husband's father's parents' names and family members?

We welcome any suggestions on this.
His father did take him and his brother back to Italy to visit Rieti once.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Carol Ficorilli

Hello Carol, and welcome to the forum! :-)

Rieti is both a comune (town) and a Province in Lazio Region. If you are certain that your husband's ancestors were born in the town you can write directly to request his birth record. This will have the names of his parents and their places of birth on it.

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II
02100 Rieti (RI)
ITALY

You should write your request in Italian :-)

Note: It's a good idea to send some form of ID with your request (a copy of a driver's license or passport).

Another option :-)
There are 31 listings for "Ficorilli" in the Italian Phonebook in Rieti

Thank you for the information. Neither my husband or I speak Italian.
We would like to add to the letter to the Italian official-could you please translate this to Italian for us?

My father moved to England-Blackpool in the 1950's and married my mother (Emily Currie Mathieson) in 1958 there in Blackpool, England.
Then they moved to Glasgow, Scotland and I was born there in 1960.
From Scotland they moved to Blackburn, Lancashire, UK-where they stayed. I do remember us visiting his old home and family in Rieti when I was young, but, I don't remember much or of the family.
I would like to find about my family and their history there in Rieti. I would appreciate any information on this matter.

You said you checked LDS are you talking about online or films of records(birth, death and marriage 1810-1905 )of Rieti from Family History Library for viewing and rental $5.50 for 90 days at location near you.
FHL locator
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... et_fhc.asp
Also if your going to write a letter for records you would do better to be precise with your info and not run on with info they dont need.
Birth name, date of birth, where born, parents names, what records you want original records or extracts of the records.

Online as I cannot get to one of their facilities. I work the night shift at the hospital here and sleep in the daytime. So, I am not out in the day.

I found in the Italian white pages a name that matches the name exactly of the twin brother of my husband's father. I will be mailing off a letter in Italian to him to inquire.

Thank you, Daniele-I am currently enjoying our correspondence and thank you for the pictures as my husband had none of his family.
We have been waiting for years for his brother to send him some pictures from the family album-still haven't received them.

Sincerely,

Carol
