Hi everyone - first post! Woohoo!
I know about the use of "fu" vs "di" on records, but this one has me stumped. I have a baptism record from 1888. It reads:
...figlio di [FATHER NAME], del vi [GRANDFATHER NAME], nativo di [TOWN], e di [MOTHER NAME] del vi [GRANDFATHER NAME], nativo di [TOWN]
I would have expected to see "fu" if the grandfathers were deceased, or "di" if the grandfathers were alive. Could "vi" be some sort of abbreviation for a word meaning "living"? Or could it be something else? I'm sure the v is correct, but the i is a little unclear in both cases.
Thanks!

Re: Abbreviation "vi" on baptism record
"vi" should mean "vivo" or "vivente", that is "living".
