Michele Migliore and Gabriela Russo

My great great grandfather was Edaurdo Lanza, b. Nov 29, 1870 in Spezzano Piccolo. According to his death certificate he died on March 26, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his parents were: Michele Migliore and Gabriela Russo. After discussing this with my aunt, she informed me that his mother died during/after childbirth and that she wasn't married to Michele. She also told me that someone in our family said that Michele Migliore was a baron/barone. Eduardo's surname is the name of the orphanage he was sent to.

Has anyone ever heard of a Gabriela Russo or Michele Migliore most likely from southern Italy, eg. Calabria or Puglia. They would have been born around the mid 1800's.

Civil records for Spezzano Piccolo are on microfilm at the LDS. Order and view the films at their centre to locate the birth record of Eduardo and probably that of Gabriela Russo and maybe even that of Michele Migliore since that surname is found in Spezzano even today. However if he was a Baron it is very unlikely you will find any official reference to him as the father of Eduardo. YOu can read more about ilegitimate children on my website and other posts in this forum.

I found just 1 Gabriella RUSSO born in Spezzano Piccolo on 6 May 1827, daughter of Francesco Russo and Caterina Pilosi:

Thank you for the information regarding both Eduardo and Gabriela. I have seen Eduardo's military record before. I am wondering if it is my Eduardo since I have parents' names on his official death certificate. Since you live in Italy and are more familiar with names, etc. do you think Gabriela Russo was a common name for that time? Do you believe this is my Gabriela Russo? If so, this would be a major discovery!

Look at who filled out the death certificate. If it was a family member it could be that the foster family was who they believed to be his parents.

The military record is probably his. The birth year is 2 years off but the day/month is the same. Often immigrants changed their age as a convenience.
The Gabriela suanj found could be the right one. She would have been 42 years old, not unusual.

I am sure that the italian military record and the italian birthdate is abt your ancestor...
by my experience normally the foundlings mentioning as biological parents the family that raised it... but obviously it is possible that Gabriella Russo was really the biological mother, but by italian military record Eduardo was a foundling, so never recognized at birth...
abt Gabriella, by Cosenza Archive was just 1 Gabriella Russo in Spezzano Piccolo, and I posted it...
as Italysearcher said can be very possible that is the Gabriella Russo that you are searching for... if you can try the birth act on Spezzano Piccolo civil records microfilms maybe you can discover more abt that...
