De Vuono family from Aprigliano
De Vuono family from Aprigliano
Hello,
I am new to the Forums here and I was wondering if anyone could help me at all in my quest for my De Vuono family ancestors? My great grandfather was named Pietro De Vuono and he was born in around the year 1880 (I think) in the small town of Aprigliano, Cosenza province, Calabria region, Italy. At the age of 23 in the year 1903 he immigrated here to North America. The family initially lived in New Jersey and then later on after my grandfather was born moved up to Canada. I know nothing about my De Vuono ancestors or family beyond my great grandfather Pietro De Vuono. His wife's name was Concetta Vigna and they would have been married in Italy before they immigrated.
So I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me or point me in the right direction in order to begin researching my De Vuono family line?
Thanks,
Jackson

Re: De Vuono family from Aprigliano
Thank you both very much for the warm welcome, replies and help! It is greatly appreciated!
All of these sites look really good to me. I have registered on the site that Joannsalvo sent me. I have found a Pietro De Vuono born on 03/2/1880. This may be my own great grandfather. His parents were Giuseppe De Vuono and Rosaria Rende.
This is so cool!

Hello Biff,
Wow thank you so much those are priceless records for me! I had no idea that my great grandfather's mother also came over to Paterson, New Jersey. I had always thought that his parents had stayed back in Aprigliano. This is excellent new information!
I think this also helps to confirm that Pietro De Vuono's parents were probably Giuseppe De Vuono and Rosaria Rende from Aprigliano.

Jackson,
The 1903 manifest you posted for Pietro was lined out which indicated he did not sail on that vessel. Below is a later 1903 manifest for a Pietro De Vuono going to Johnston PA. Line 27

I thought I posted a 1903 manifest? The Pietro De Vuono on the manifest you just linked to me looks like my great grandfather as well. Which is correct?
Re: De Vuono family from Aprigliano
1911 manifest for Concetta Vigna and daughters Virginia and Assunta. Lines 5 and following. Joining husband/father Pietro De Vuono in Canada.

Based daughter Assunta's age, Pietro must have returned to Italy after 1903, and there should be another manifest for him.

My error on referencing the 1909 manifest; the one you posted was for 1903 as was the one I posted. I've corrected my previous post. I believe the manifest I posted to be correct.

Re: De Vuono family from Aprigliano
Thanks again Biff. Yes that is correct my great grandfather's wife was named Concetta Vigna and his first two children were Virginia and Assunta. Later on he and his wife had three more children one of whom was my grandfather Anthony.
On this site I found a birth that may be my great grandfather.

Pietro De Vuono born on 03/2/1880. His parents were Giuseppe De Vuono and Rosaria Rende. I wonder if this is my great grandfather then?

Re: De Vuono family from Aprigliano
So that was his second trip back over to the US from Italy correct? He must have went over to get his wife and children.
