Chiocchi surname in Italy are found in 73 cities, towns and villages in Italy stretching from the deep south to the northern tier provinces. In Italy all documentation is readily available at the city, town or village of origin. Do you know the province from whence she came?? If not then perhaps british census, church or civil documents can pinpoint the locale of her origin. Peter

Thankyou Peter. It's not actually my grandmother who arrived from Italy but her ancestors.
I am told that the name Chiocchi was "created" for a particular reason and that the town of origin was Chioggia.
I have been told a story of the origination of the name that involved an illegitimate child and an important person.
If anyone knows of any way to find out about the name I would be very grateful
Thanks.
